CIPD Student Stories: Hannah Jacobs | CIPD Level 5 Diploma

Returning to work post maternity leave, Hannah began studying the Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management, keen to cement her knowledge in skills in the world of HR.

I currently work as a standalone HR Lead in a small independent school. I studied Business and Management at University, focusing on HR.

I have worked in the same organisation for a number of years, as an admin/operations specialist. Being a small organisation, and as a standalone HR employee, I wanted to further my knowledge and embed my on-the-job learning with a recognised qualification, to accredit my experience.

Having just returned from maternity leave I decided that I wanted to specialise in HR and my organisation was supportive of me developing in this area, as it was one of my weaknesses. I therefore decided to pursue  CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management through ICS Learn.

I was slightly apprehensive about beginning my course as I hadn’t done any formal learning since my degree ten years ago. I chose to study online so that I could complete the course flexibly around my personal life and work demands.

I had never studied online before, and was apprehensive about whether I would be able to acquire the knowledge I needed whilst just sitting at a computer on my own.
