CIPD Student Stories: Paul Whittle | CIPD Level 5

I work in the NHS, in quite a specific role concerning doctors’ registration. I wanted to formalise the learning I had done in this and previous roles, and opted for the CIPD level 5. I was new to HR, and had no previous HR qualifications.

I needed an online option, to fit around working full time and having a family. I also wanted the flexibility to study at my own pace. Being neuro nontypical, this was particularly important.

The tutors were always there when you needed advice and the feedback from the assignments was constructive. Meeting other students on the optional study days was also useful.

I researched a few providers, but I kept returning to the ICS. They seemed to be market leaders, and offered the flexible approach I needed. I also spoke to a couple of colleagues who had studied with ICS, and found it to be highly recommended.

I completed the Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management quite quickly. This allowed me to gain a more senior role in the organisation and I've gained a lot more confidence in my role.

I particularly enjoyed the employment law module, which was a complete surprise, as I had no previous knowledge or interest!

To expand my legal skills and knowledge, I then did a Level 7 Award in Employment Law, which led me to complete a Masters in Law.

I wouldn’t have had the confidence to undertake a high-level qualification had I not undertaken my Level 5 Associate Diploma with ICS.

My role is ever-changing, and I again wish to formalise my learning and gain Chartered CIPD status. I have therefore started a Level 7 Advanced Diploma in People Management. I again chose ICS, based on my expertise and continued requirement for flexibility.

This qualification will help in my current role and I'm also hoping that the completion of my Level 7, will cover areas I may be interested in, in the future, but which aren’t currently on my radar.

I would highly recommend ICS for CIPD qualifications.
